The Absent Center
2016. Triptych consisting of three 12″ x 9″ panels with an absent center panel. Ink, Graphite, and Watercolor on Strathmore Drawing Paper.
A growing series of illustrations linking the architectural process of material world-building to other forms of cultural exposition and ideological explication. The lines cross and convene as both symbol and design, inviting the viewer to imagine their dimensions across any number of formats. Drawn on 8” x 6” graph paper, or plain 5″ x 7″ Strathmore paper. The illustrations are made to look like sketches, technical drawings, or graphic design, reflecting on how the impetus behind all forms of human expression begin in the head. The confusion of possibilities, equally symbols, dwellings, or electrical schematics, lends the subject of each image a fluid and shifting dimensionality, requiring the viewer to ask wether the lines describe a real object or its coming-to-being.
